Change, renew or cancel
How to cancel or restart card renewal, renew an EPS plan, switch to another plan, and what happens to your projects, articles and limits when a paid plan ends.
You manage your plan on the Plan and billing page (Billing in the sidebar). What you can do depends on how you paid: card plans renew by themselves until you cancel, and EPS plans run for the time you paid and then stop.
Cancel a card plan
- Open Plan and billing.
- Under Current plan, click Cancel renewal.
- Read the note and click Cancel renewal again (or Keep my plan to go back).
Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. The status changes to "Active until" and the date, ", will not renew". After that date the account moves to the free plan. Nothing more is charged.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. It doesn't refund the current month or year. If a renewal went through that you meant to cancel, see Refunds: you can ask within 3 days of the renewal.
Changed your mind?
Before the end date, click Turn renewal back on. The plan renews as before, on the same date.
Renew an EPS plan
EPS payments don't renew automatically. Before your plan ends:
- Open Plan and billing. Your plan's card shows Renew and the plan's name.
- Click it, choose the Monthly or Yearly period first if you want to change it, and pay with EPS.
Paying again for the same plan adds the new month or year to the time you have left, so you lose nothing by renewing early. When you renew an EPS plan, only EPS is offered, because a card subscription would start a new period from today.
If you don't renew, the plan simply ends on its date.
Change to another plan
Card plans: a card subscription can't be swapped for another plan on the page. You have two choices:
- Email us at [email protected] from your account's email and say which plan and period you want. We switch the subscription for you.
- Or do it yourself: click Cancel renewal, then click Get on the new plan and pay. The new plan starts right away and replaces the old one, and the old subscription doesn't renew. The time left on the old plan is not carried over, so this is best near the end of a period.
If you try to buy another plan by card while your card plan still renews, you'll see: "You already have a card subscription. Cancel it first to switch plans, or contact support and we will switch it for you."
EPS plans: pick the new plan, click Get, and pay. A different plan starts today, for a full month or year. The time left on the old plan is not carried over.
Monthly to yearly: treat it as a change of plan, above. Yearly billing costs less per month.
Moving down to Free: cancel the renewal (card), or don't renew (EPS). You move to the free plan when the paid period ends.
If you pay by card and also want to pay with EPS, cancel the card renewal first. Otherwise the card subscription keeps renewing and charging you.
What happens when a paid plan ends
When a paid period ends without renewal, your account moves to the free plan. SerpPal waits about two extra days after the date shown before it does this, so a card renewal that arrives a little late doesn't interrupt your work.
On the free plan:
- Everything you made is kept: projects, articles, versions, study sets, chats, team members and connected sites.
- Monthly limits drop to the free plan's. If you already used more this month than the free plan allows, new analyses or AI words wait until the 1st of next month.
- Media storage drops to the free plan's amount. Your files stay, but you can't upload new ones until you are under the limit.
- API keys keep working, with the free plan's limits.
- Check /pricing for the features each plan includes.
You can upgrade again at any time, and everything is still there.
If a card payment fails
If a renewal payment doesn't go through (an expired card, not enough funds), update your card under Invoices and card as soon as you can. If the subscription can't be renewed, your account moves to the free plan, with everything kept, and you can subscribe again at any time.
Common questions
Where do I see when my plan renews or ends? Under Current plan on Plan and billing: "Renews on" for card plans that renew, or "Active until" for plans that will end.
I cancelled by mistake. Click Turn renewal back on before the end date.
Can I pause my plan? No. Cancel the renewal and subscribe again when you need it.
