Bulk writing with AI

Let the AI write complete, optimized articles for up to 20 keywords right after their analyses: how to start it, what it does, what it costs and fixes.

Bulk writing lets the AI write full articles for many keywords without you opening each one. After each analysis finishes, SerpPal writes a title, an outline, the full article and a meta description, then scores it. The article waits for you in the project, ready for review.

Bulk writing is only available when AI writing is turned on for the site.

Start bulk writing

From a project page

  1. Open the project.
  2. In the Keyword box, put one keyword per line (up to 20). Open More options if you need the bigger box.
  3. Tick Write the articles with AI after the analysis (title, outline, full draft, meta).
  4. Click Analyze.

From the Content Planner

  1. Tick the keywords you want (up to 20).
  2. Tick Also write them with AI.
  3. Click Analyze and write N selected, then confirm.

See Content Planner.

What the AI does for each article

For every keyword, once its analysis is ready:

  1. Title: picks the best of several title ideas built from what ranks.
  2. Outline: writes H2 and H3 headings that cover the topics the top pages share.
  3. Article: writes the full article from that outline, aiming at the target length (the median length of the top pages). It works in the recommended terms, topics and questions.
  4. Links: adds internal links to related pages on your site (when you have read your sitemap) and external links to trusted sources the top pages cite. It only uses those addresses, so it cannot make up links.
  5. Meta description: writes the description for Google.
  6. Score: scores the article like the editor does, and sets the stage to Review.

The AI follows the project's brand kit and writes in the analysis language.

Follow the progress

On the project page, the Analysis column shows:

PillMeaning
Waiting / AnalyzingThe analysis is still running.
AI in queueThe analysis is done and the article waits for a free AI writer.
AI writingThe AI is writing it now.
AI draft readyFinished. The stage is set to Review.
AI failedThe AI could not finish. Hover the pill for the reason.

The page refreshes itself every few seconds while anything is running. You can close it; the work continues on our servers.

If you open an article that is still being written, you see "The AI is writing this article" with its steps: Choosing the title, Writing the outline, Writing the full article, Writing the meta description. It usually takes 2 to 4 minutes per article. The editor opens on its own when it is done.

SerpPal writes two articles at a time, so a batch of 20 takes a while. Articles are written in the order you started them.

Review the drafts

Bulk drafts are a strong start, not a final article. For each one:

  1. Open it from the project page or Recent articles.
  2. Read it. Check facts, numbers, product names and anything about your own company.
  3. Add your own experience, examples, screenshots and opinions. This is what makes an article stand out.
  4. Check the score and the Optimization tab for terms still missing.
  5. Run it through the AI checker or humanize it in the editor if it sounds stiff.
  6. Set the stage to Done and publish.

Your earlier text is kept

If an article already had text before the AI wrote it, that text is saved as a version called "Before AI writing". The new draft is saved as "Written by AI". Restore either from Versions. See Versions and autosave.

Cost

  • Each keyword uses one analysis.
  • Each article uses AI words: about 2,000 to 3,000 for a typical article, more for long topics. The title, outline, article and meta description all count.
  • Words the AI wrote are counted even if a later step fails.

Before each article starts, SerpPal checks that you have AI words left. If you run out partway through a batch, the remaining articles fail with "No AI words left on the plan this month". Their analyses are still ready, so you can write them yourself or later. An article that already started finishes, so you can end slightly over your limit.

See Plans and limits.

When an article fails

When bulk writing fails, the article opens empty in the editor with a message: "The AI could not write this article: ...". The analysis is fine, so you can:

  • write the article yourself with the brief; or
  • open AI Writing and use the Article wizard or Write the full article. See AI writing in the editor.

Common reasons:

MessageWhat to do
"No AI words left on the plan this month"Wait for the 1st of the month, or upgrade, then write it from the editor.
"The AI returned no outline"A temporary AI problem. Use the article wizard in the editor.
"The AI article came back too short"The same. Use Write the full article in the editor.

If the analysis fails, nothing is written. Click Try again on the article. When it succeeds, the AI writes it as planned.

Tips

  • Set up the brand kit first. Voice, audience and banned words make bulk drafts sound like you from the start.
  • Read the sitemap first so the AI can add internal links.
  • Start small. Try 3 to 5 keywords, review the drafts, adjust your brand kit, then do the rest.
  • Group by topic. A batch from one planner group gives articles that naturally link to each other.

Common questions

Can I turn on AI writing for an analysis I already ran? Not in bulk. Open the article and use the article wizard or Write the full article.

Does the AI publish anything? No. Bulk drafts stay in SerpPal until you publish them.

Does bulk writing use the dashboard's Write with AI mode? No. Write with AI on the dashboard opens the article wizard for one keyword, where you choose the title and outline yourself. Bulk writing makes those choices for you.
