AI visibility
Check whether Google's AI Overview, ChatGPT and Claude mention your brand when people ask about your keyword, who they name instead, and how to improve.
More and more people ask AI instead of scrolling through Google. The AI visibility check shows whether your brand comes up when someone asks about your keyword, and which brands and websites the AI recommends instead.
What it checks
For the article's keyword, SerpPal asks:
- Google AI Overview: the AI answer Google shows above the results, in the article's country and language.
- Each AI assistant connected to SerpPal, for example ChatGPT and Claude. Each one is asked the keyword as a real person would ask it, and answers with the brands and websites it would recommend.
Then it looks for your brand in each answer.
Before you start
In Project settings, fill in at least one of:
- Website, for example
example.com; - Brand name (for AI visibility), for example "Acme".
Both is best. AI visibility needs AI turned on for the site, and you need to be the owner or an editor of the project.
Run a check
- Open the article in the editor.
- In the Optimization tab, open the AI visibility row.
- Click Check AI visibility.
It takes up to a minute or two while SerpPal asks each engine. When it is done you see a message such as "Mentioned by 1 of 3", and the row shows your score.

The score
The percentage on the AI visibility row is the share of engines that mention you. Mentioned by 2 of 3 engines gives 67%. Engines that could not be checked are left out of the score.
Each engine
Every engine gets a card:
- Mentioned, sometimes with a place like #2: your brand came up. The number is your place among the brands it recommended, or for Google, among the sources it cited.
- Not mentioned: your brand did not come up.
- Not checked: the engine could not be asked this time. The reason is shown under it.
Under the label you see:
- a short excerpt of the answer;
- the brands it recommended, numbered in order, with yours highlighted when it is there;
- Sources: the websites it cited or would send people to.
When Google shows no AI Overview for the keyword, the Google card says "Google shows no AI Overview for this keyword right now." That counts as not mentioned.
The date of the check is shown at the bottom. Click Check again to run it again. The last result is saved with the article.
How a mention is found
Your brand counts as mentioned when an answer:
- contains your brand name (3 letters or more);
- or contains the first part of your domain (4 letters or more), for "acme.com" that is "acme";
- or cites your domain as a source.
Upper and lower case, spaces and punctuation are ignored, and names in any alphabet work. If your brand name is a common word, mentions can be over-counted; a distinctive brand name gives the most accurate result.
Cost
Each check uses 300 AI words for each AI assistant it asks, for example 600 AI words with ChatGPT and Claude. The Google AI Overview part does not use AI words. Checks do not use analyses.
How to improve your AI visibility
AI assistants recommend brands that the web talks about clearly and often. Look at the brands and Sources they list:
- Get on the sources. If the AI cites certain review sites, lists or forums, work on being featured there.
- Answer the question directly. Start your article with a clear, short answer to the keyword. Use the AI search readiness row in the Optimization tab to check this.
- Say who you are. Use your brand name consistently, with a clear one-line description of what you do, on your site and in your articles.
- Cover the topic fully. A high content score and good answers to the questions in the brief make your page a better source.
- Check again over time. AI answers change. Re-check every month or two.
AI answers vary from one request to the next, even for the same question. Treat one check as a snapshot, and look at the trend over several checks.
Troubleshooting
"Add your website or brand name in the project settings first": neither is set. Add one in Project settings.
I do not see the AI visibility row. AI is not turned on for this site.
"Not checked" on Google AI Overview: the Google data connection had a problem or is not set up. The AI assistants are still checked. Try again later.
"Not checked" on an AI assistant: that AI service did not answer in time. Click Check again.
"You can view this project but not change it": viewers can see results but cannot run checks. Ask the owner for the Editor role.
I am mentioned but with the wrong name. Set the Brand name in Project settings to the exact name the AI uses.
