What is MCP

Connect Claude, Cursor or another AI assistant to SerpPal over MCP, so it can read and improve your articles, analyze keywords and publish posts for you.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools in other apps. SerpPal has an MCP server, so an assistant such as Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor or any other MCP client can work in your SerpPal account the way you would.

What an assistant can do

Once connected, you can ask your assistant in plain words, and it uses SerpPal's tools to:

  • Find your work: list your projects and articles, and search them by keyword or title.
  • Read an article with its content score, headings and an SEO guide: the terms to add or use less, the topics and questions that are missing, and tips to raise the score.
  • Improve an article: save a new version of the content, title or meta description. SerpPal recalculates the content score and keeps the previous version in the article's history.
  • Start new articles: analyze a keyword in a project, just like Analyze a keyword in the app.
  • Publish: add images from a link, publish an article to a connected site now or at a set time, and follow, reschedule, cancel or retry posts.

The full list is in the Tools reference. Ideas for what to ask are at the end of this page.

How it works

  1. You make an API key on your Account page. It starts with sp_live_. See API keys.
  2. You add SerpPal's server address and your key to your assistant's settings. The address is your SerpPal address followed by /mcp, for example https://serppal.com/mcp. The Account page shows the exact address and ready-made setup text.
  3. The assistant asks SerpPal what tools it has, and uses them when your request needs them.

The assistant acts as you. It can open the projects you can open, with the same role: if you are a viewer in a project, it can read but not change articles there. Analyses it starts count toward your plan's monthly analyses, the same as in the app.

Stay in control

  • Ask before publishing. SerpPal tells assistants to ask you before they publish or schedule a post. Most assistants also ask you to approve each tool call; keep that on for publishing tools.
  • Every edit can be undone. Before an assistant changes an article, SerpPal saves the old version with the note "Before an edit from an AI assistant". Restore it from the editor's history (see Versions and autosave).
  • Keys can be revoked any time. Revoking a key cuts off the assistant at once.
  • Assistants can't touch your account settings. They can't change your password, plan or billing, and they can't make or revoke API keys.

  • "Which of my articles have a content score below 60? Show the keyword and score for each."
  • "Read my article on cold brew coffee and tell me which terms and topics it is missing."

  • "Add a short FAQ section with the top 4 questions from the SEO guide to the end of the cold brew article."

New articles

  • "Analyze the keyword 'pour over coffee ratio' in my Coffee Corner project, wait until it's done, then write a first draft that follows the SEO guide."
  • "Start analyses for these five keywords in Coffee Corner: ..."

Publishing

  • "Publish the cold brew article to my WordPress site as a draft, with the tags coffee and recipes."
  • "Schedule the French press article on my blog for next Tuesday at 9:00 in the morning, New York time. Use this image as the featured image: https://example.com/press.jpg."
  • "Put this YouTube video after the heading 'How long to steep cold brew' and update the post on my site."
  • "Show my scheduled posts for this week, and move the one on Friday to Monday at the same time."
