Images and videos
Add a featured image and place images and videos in your posts. File types, size limits, media storage, video links and where each platform keeps files.
When you publish, you can give the post a featured image and place images and videos anywhere in the article. You don't need to add them in the editor first: you pick them in the Publish dialog, and SerpPal puts them in the right place when the post goes out.
Add a featured image
- In the Publish dialog, click Add a featured image.
- Pick an image from the Library tab, upload one on the Upload tab, or paste an image address on the Image link tab.
- Write the alt text: a short description of what the image shows. It helps screen readers and image search.
To change it, click the x next to it and add another one. The featured image must be an image, not a video.
Place images and videos in the article
- Click Add an image or video.
- Pick a file from the Library, upload one on the Upload tab, or use From a link:
- an image address: SerpPal copies the image into your library;
- a YouTube or Vimeo link: SerpPal embeds a video player (nothing is copied);
- a direct link to a video file: SerpPal copies the video into your library.
- Choose where it goes:
- At the top: before the first paragraph.
- After a heading: right after one of the article's H2 or H3 headings. The list shows them in order, like After "How to store it".
- At the end: after the last paragraph.
- Write the alt text (for a video, a title), and a caption if you want one. The caption is shown under the image or video.
You can add up to 40 images and videos to one post. Each new one starts after the next heading, so they spread through the article; change the place if you like. Click the x to remove one.
SerpPal remembers the heading by its text. If you edit the article later and the heading moves, the image moves with it. If you delete or rename the heading, the image goes to the end of the article.
Supported files and limits
| Types | Largest file | |
|---|---|---|
| Images | JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF | 15 MB |
| Videos | MP4, WebM, MOV | 250 MB |
SerpPal checks the real type of the file from its contents, not from its name, so a renamed file is caught: "Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF image, or an MP4, WebM or MOV video".
Video links that become players: YouTube (youtube.com/watch, youtu.be, Shorts and live links) and Vimeo. Other links are added as a plain link to the video.
Media storage
Every file you upload or copy from a link counts toward your plan's media storage. Unlike analyses and AI words, storage doesn't reset each month: it is the total size of the files you keep. The amount depends on your plan (see /pricing and Plans and limits).
- See how much you use on the Publishing page, Media library tab. A bar shows what you used out of your total.
- When it is full, uploads stop with "Your media storage is full. Delete some files or upgrade your plan." Delete files you no longer need, or move to a bigger plan.
- If your plan ends and the new plan has less storage, your files stay, but you can't add new ones until you are under the limit.
Where each platform stores the files
At publish time SerpPal copies the files to your site where it can, so your posts don't depend on SerpPal.
| Platform | Featured image | Images in the article | Uploaded videos |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress | Uploaded to the Media Library | Uploaded to the Media Library | Uploaded to the Media Library |
| Shopify | Copied by Shopify from SerpPal | Copied to Content, Files | Uploaded to Content, Files |
| Ghost | Uploaded to Ghost | Uploaded to Ghost | Uploaded to Ghost's media storage |
| Webflow | Copied by Webflow into the Image field | Copied by Webflow from SerpPal | A link to SerpPal's copy (rich text can't hold videos) |
| Webhook | A link to SerpPal's copy | Links to SerpPal's copies | Links to SerpPal's copies |
If Shopify or Ghost can't take a video (too big, still processing after about a minute and a half, or a missing permission), the post links to SerpPal's copy of it instead, so the video still plays.
YouTube and Vimeo players are added as embedded players on every platform. Webflow may strip players it doesn't support from rich text.
Where a post links to SerpPal's copy (webhooks, Webflow videos, and the fallbacks above), deleting the file from your media library breaks that image or video in the post. Keep those files, or copy them to your own storage.
Files have public addresses
Each file gets a long, unguessable address like https://serppal.com/m/Xk2f...jpg. Platforms need it to copy the file. Anyone who has the address can open the file, but it can't be found by guessing or searching. Don't upload images you need to keep private.
Common questions
Can I add images inside the editor instead? Yes, images you add in the editor are part of the article's HTML and are sent with it. The Publish dialog is the way to upload files to your site's own media storage and place videos.
Why isn't my featured image showing? Some themes don't show featured images on single posts, and some Webflow collections have no Image field. Check the post in your site's admin.
Can I reuse an image in many posts? Yes. Pick it from the Library tab each time. It only counts once toward your storage.
