About readability

Readability questions.

What is the Flesch reading ease score?

A score from 0 to 100 based on how long your sentences are and how many syllables your words have. Higher is easier. 60 to 70 reads easily for most adults; most web writing should aim for 60 or more.

What is the grade level?

The Flesch-Kincaid grade: the school year a reader would need to follow the text easily. Grade 7 to 9 suits most websites.

Which sentences are marked?

Sentences of more than 20 words in yellow and more than 30 in red. Splitting them is the quickest way to make a text easier to read.

Does it work in other languages?

The formulas were made for English, so scores for other languages are only a rough guide.

Is my text saved?

No. The check runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to us.
